Circle of Awareness
CIRCLE OF AWARENESS
In this world, many people are running in a race of success. Some people want to earn money, some want to make their career and Some want to be a Millionaire but nobody aware that who they are. People are just copying each other without knowing what they exactly want in life, and what their goals are. Many of them are confused about their future. Many think that money is everything so they choose those fields and those courses that pay them a High amount of money whether they are interested in that filed/courses or not. They just want to make money so they follow only money, not passion.
In my opinion, if you want to be successful in life first know yourself (who you are, what you exactly want in life, want you to want to achieve. And what is your dream job)? I’ll help you build awareness, both internally and externally. This is the great exercise to get you started in looking for a job that has the most potential to fit your skills and make you happy. The Circle of Awareness exercise is one in which you list your skills and interest.
AWARENESS: Awareness is the starting point for building a successful career. Ask yourself some questions about who you are? what do you want in life? why do you want to work for a certain job? If you can’t answer these questions it means you have a lack of focus in everything you do. At the start of your career, it can be hard for you to know what you want to be as professional, what kind of companies you could work for, what job you could choose.
INTERNAL AWARENESS: Internal awareness is all about knowing yourself what you like or dislike, what qualities you have, in which direction you want to develop your skills, utilize your talent. It can be hard to give your career a meaningful direction. But when you come to know about the qualities and skills that you have, that you enjoy using and that have the potential to earn you living are the ones that you can build your career on.
EXTERNAL AWARENESS: External awareness is all about understanding the people, the jobs, knowing what will be expected from you, and the companies (included the company that you work for now). A combination of internal and external awareness helps you to formulate goals for yourself that are in full alignment of your environment and helps you to give your career a meaningful direction.
Let’s begin with the exercise now.
EXERCISE
Take a blank sheet of paper and draw three circles. Each circle will represent one of the following circles of awareness.
Circle of Competence.
Circle of Fun.
Circle of Returns.
In each those of circles, you can make a list of your personal and professional qualities like the picture given below:
In the Circle of Competence, list all the concrete and soft skills or qualities.
Concrete skills like singing or math problem-solving. Soft skills like making people welcome or think about situations. You can ask some of your friends you trust about your personal and professional qualities. Write all of them down.
In the Circle of Fun, you should list the qualities or skills that you enjoy using. These are the skills that give you energy rather than drain it. If you hard to find the skills that you enjoy using, try to monitor throughout the day when you feel your energy drain or uplift.
The skills that you enjoy using are not necessarily that you have or the skills that you have are not necessarily the ones that you enjoy using.
Once you have a list of qualities that you enjoy using, visualize them how much you would still enjoy using them if you use them every day for 8 to 10 hours. Many people enjoy dancing but would they still enjoy it if they had to do it every day for 8 hours? Most people would not, so it's better not to make a profession out of it in that case.
In the Circle of Returns, list the qualities or skills that you think are relevant for companies or jobs that will allow you to earn some kind of living in a way you wish for. One thing that helps skills relevant is if they are transferrable between jobs and toward the future. A lot of skills that come from your following passion are transferrable in many ways. If you do it right, earning a good living can even help you focus more on your passions.
Using these skills that means you will put more energy into the job and will be more successful. The career path that allows you to stay with the company as long as possible which means that your employer benefits you longer.
Not everyone can have a lifesaving job, but I believe everyone can experience purpose in their job.
After completing the awareness exercise, you will be able to find your ambition, what type of job you want, and what is your purpose in life. I have followed this exercise and found it useful so I shared it with you guys. If you are only in the job for a couple of years. You might take a job because you know that you can develop your skills that you want to utilize later in your career, whether you are aiming to work for a company or work for yourself as a freelancer or start your own business.
Try to define which elements of your job are meaningful to you, and try to arrange your professional life around those elements to maximize your feeling of purpose.
A feeling of purpose makes everything you do convincing and powerful. You will build success without focusing on promotions and salary.
